My version of 'Alice in Wonderland'

This morning I decided to sit and type out a story about Alice's own 'Special Wonderland'. Think of the well known "Lewis Carroll's 'Alice in Wonderland" series.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is a work of nonsense literature written by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll, considered
a classic example of the genre and of English literature in general[1].
It tells the story of a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit-hole into a fantasy realm populated by grotesque figures like talking playing cards and anthropomorphic creatures.
The tale is fraught with satirical allusions to Dodgson's friends (and enemies), and to the lessons that British schoolchildren were expected to memorize. The Wonderland described in the tale plays with logic in ways that have made the story of lasting popularity with adults as well as children. It is considered to be one of the most characteristic examples of the genre of literary nonsense.

Alice's wonderland is entered where she lives in an area close by the Great Southern Ocean. She is lulled to sleep at night with the sounds of the sea waters slashing vigorously against the many rocks lining the shore. This familiar sound is missed when away on her many adventures into the heartland of her country Australia.

Alice feels blessed as she now has the time and freedom to explore and enjoy the surrounding countryside, soaking up the vibrant colours of the inland, the many shapes and textures of the majestic trees, the beauty in the discovery of unexpected wildflowers underfoot. Alice loves to venture along an unknown pathway soaking up unfamiliar new sights and sounds of the bushland that surround her.

Alice delights in the abundance of wildflowers in a year when rain has been plentiful the flowers covering the ground grouped together to form large floral carpets.

Australian Birds of Prey such as the powerful Wedge tail Eagles encountered by roadside verges whilst feeding on roadside kill. Alice has sat quietly by watching in awe at the power exhibited in their talons as they ripped the flesh apart whilst feeding. Later she admired these birds as they soared high above the earth on thermals, delighted in their freedom.

At home in Alice's own garden the native plants are visited by Honey eaters feeding on nectar from a profusion of flowers. Magpies often several in number, sit on branches of the gardens trees singing happily as a new day begins. Some call to Alice and run expectantly towards her open door hoping for a juicy morsel of meat.



Wattle Birds frequent the garden their behaviour quite aggressive toward other smaller birds. Alice talks quite seriously to them if they frighten her favourites the Willy wagtails whose entertaining songs and dance she enjoys.

At various times of the day New Holland Honey Eaters fly in to feed and call attention to themselves as they chatter loudly. Alice has been delighted to observe them all clustered around her bird bath waiting their turn for a "splash".
occasionally Field Mice and Blue Tongued Lizards cause Alice to start with surprise at their sudden unexpected appearance whilst she sits quietly lost in pleasant thoughts.

To visit the nearby beach and wander along the seashore gathering unusual shells to share with the children in her special group on Sunday brings Alice pleasure in anticipation of the children's delight when receiving them.

Resting against an ancient granite rock whilst observing the antics of seals as they dive for fish near the breakwater and watching as people enjoy swimming whilst others fish off the jetty or row swiftly by in a canoe provides Alice with ideas for her next children's story or a poem to share with friends.




To Alice these moments in time are all part and parcel of the special God given wonderland of delights in store for her each day as she ventures out into His world. - AMJB
